Mike Glynn Track Dedication Event

53 years ago, in September1966, Mike Glynn, a 21 year old, All American ½ miler and Iona track team Captain signed up to teach English, and start a brand new cross country / track and field program at the newly opened Paramus Catholic High School . He immediately went to work to create a solid foundation for a championship track and cross country program at PC.

Within a few short years, by the time the Paladins produced its first graduating class, it was clear that this was the beginning of a track dynasty at Paramus Catholic High School and the first lap of Mike Glynn’s legendary career as one of the most successful, respected and loved coaches in NJ history. The total accomplishments of the Paramus Catholic Track /cross country powerhouse during Glynn’s reign at PC are too many to mention here. Shortly after his arrival at PC, Coach Glynn’s tireless efforts, along with his incredible coaching, mentoring and leadership skills, and his infectious personality and dedication to his athletes, built the Paramus Catholic track and cross country programs into a nationally recognized powerhouse, that produced many of the best runners in Bergen County history.

In his 14 years at PC, as a teacher, guidance counsellor, and head coach of the Track and Cross Country teams, his athletes would go on compete on the highest levels, setting County and national records, while winning numerous County and State individual and relay championships, as well as becoming some of the best individual runners in the nation.

Glynn left PC in 1980, and went on to produce another regional track and cross country powerhouse just two miles down the road at Ridgewood High School.  In recognition of his accomplishments as an athlete and coach, Mike Glynn has been Inducted in NJ SCA Coaches Hall Of Fame 2018, The NY Armory Coaches Hall of Fame 2016, the Iona College Hall of Fame 1986 and the Paramus Catholic Hal of Fame.

The Paramus Catholic Track and Field Complex is being named in honor of Coach Glynn so that everyone will know the name Mike Glynn, and continue to be inspired by his legacy.
